I downloaded and tested 6 of these apps back in January 2026. Every single one was garbage.

Here's what actually happens: they show you a list of random accounts and claim those are your "profile visitors." But the names are completely made up — or they're just pulling from your followers list and presenting them as viewers. I tested this by having my friend check my profile 15 times in one day. Not a single app showed her name. But they DID show accounts I haven't interacted with in months. Yeah.

Worse, most of these apps want access to your Instagram credentials. That's a massive security risk. You're handing your login to some random developer who'll probably use it to spam your followers, scrape your DMs, or sell your data. Instagram's help center specifically warns against giving third-party apps your password.

Seriously — if you've got any of these installed, delete them now. They don't work and they're a privacy disaster.

The 'Suggested Users' Theory — Is There Anything to It?

Okay, this one's actually interesting. There's a theory floating around Reddit and Twitter for years that says your "Suggested for You" section and your story viewer order are influenced by who visits your profile.

The logic goes like this: if someone frequently checks your profile, they'll start appearing higher in your story viewer list and in your suggestions. So by looking at who consistently pops up at the top of your story views, you can supposedly figure out who's stalking you.

Is there truth to this? Ehh. Maybe. Kind of. It's complicated.

What Instagram Actually Lets You See

Even though you can't see individual profile visitors, Instagram does give you some visibility into your audience. Here's what's actually available:

**Story viewers** — this is the big one. Every person who watches your story shows up in a list, in real time.
